About this piece
Most bathroom signs serve exactly one audience. This one serves three at once. The braille line at the bottom follows the European signage standard ISO 17049 in uncontracted grade 1, placed where searching fingers expect it. The large raised capitals serve sighted and low vision readers. And the icon is the dynamic, forward leaning accessibility symbol, the modern take that shows motion rather than passivity. I print the sign in three colours for maximum contrast: a black plate, white icon and text, and yellow braille dots. The back is completely flat, so double sided tape mounts it on any smooth door or wall, and the parametric source includes countersunk screw holes, keyhole slots and magnet pockets as switchable options. The sign prints flat with all detail on the top face, so no supports touch the braille. As with all my work, the whole sign is written in OpenSCAD, the CAD that works with a screen reader, so the wording, size and mounting are all parameters. I use the same braille library on this sign as on every braille piece I sell, so the dots are the real thing.
Why I made it this way
- I follow ISO 17049 signage braille, with dots where searching fingers expect them.
- I use the dynamic, forward leaning accessibility symbol rather than the passive one.
- I print in three high contrast colours: black plate, white text and icon, yellow braille.
- I keep the back flat for tape mounting, with screw and magnet options in the source.
- I can set any wording: the sign is fully parametric, braille included.
What arrives
If you choose the printed option, your sign arrives ready to mount, with a flat back for double sided tape. Need different wording, other colours or screw mounting? Contact me before ordering.
Printing and finishing
I print each sign to order in Denmark, flat on the plate with all detail up, so the braille dots come out crisp and no support ever touches them.
