Accessible Banko Plates

About this piece

I designed these banko plates so blind, partially sighted and sighted players can join the same game. Each plate follows the Danish banko layout: three rows of nine fields, with five numbers in every row. Every number is printed in black in a recessed field, and the same number sits in braille on the border just above it, so you can read it with a fingertip and cover it with a marker. I print the plates with a 0.2 mm nozzle, which makes the braille very crisp and clear. A plate is 230 x 108 mm and about 3 mm thick, in white PLA with black numbers. You can order one or more of my six standard plates, which together hold all 90 numbers, or plates with your own numbers, for example the plates your banko club already uses. For your own numbers, write the 15 numbers for each plate, one plate per line, and set the quantity to the number of plates.

Why I made it this way

• I put the braille right above each number, so reading and marking happen in the same place.
• I print with a 0.2 mm nozzle, so the braille dots come out crisp and clear.
• I use black numbers on white plates for strong contrast.
• I follow the Danish banko layout: 15 numbers on three rows.
• I make plates with your own numbers at the same price, 45 DKK per plate.
