About this piece
These tiles are the simplest braille teaching tool I make, and maybe the most useful one. Each compact tile carries one letter twice: a braille cell in real signage-grade braille at the top, and the same letter as a raised capital below it, so a braille reader and a print reader always agree on what the tile says. The tiles interlock with small connectors, female on the top and left, male on the right and bottom, so a built word stays in reading order and cannot drift apart under searching fingers. The set is the full Danish alphabet from a to z plus æ, ø and å, and a blank tile for spaces, thirty tiles in all, printed as one plate. The braille follows the European signage standard ISO 17049 with 0.6 mm domed dots, the same dots you meet on real signs. Build a name, build the week's spelling words, or lay out the whole alphabet in a grid and explore. I designed the tiles in OpenSCAD, the CAD that works with a screen reader, and the parametric source lets you change the tile set to any letters you need.
Why I made it this way
- I put braille and a raised letter on every tile, so both reading worlds always agree.
- I use real ISO 17049 signage braille, the same dots you meet on real signs.
- I gave the tiles interlocking connectors, so built words hold their reading order.
- I include the whole Danish alphabet, æ, ø and å included, plus a blank for spaces.
- I made the source parametric, so the set can become any letters you need.
What arrives
If you choose the printed option, the full alphabet arrives as loose tiles, each connector tested. Want extra vowels, doubled letters or another language's set? Contact me before ordering.
Printing and finishing
I print each set to order in Denmark, flat on the plate with the braille up so every dot comes out crisp.
Returns and digital files
Printed items have a 14-day right of withdrawal, plus your 2-year complaint right.
